Best Day of the Decade

Every 5 or so years the wonderful task of staining the cabin comes around. This is an event the Jensen family all looks forward too and so we were ecstatic that this year was the year to do it. (do you sense any sarcasm?). We planned months in advance and this past weekend, it was go time.

We headed up early Saturday morning (we were Crew #2, after the Friday Taping Crew). We were prepped and ready for the messy, dirty day ahead of us.
We worked for several hours and were already well on our way to being dirty (and when I say dirty, I mean dirty! Sticky, painty, oily dirty, I can't even fully describe it). We took a bit of a break for lunch before getting back to the grind.
The saddest part of the day was the "Killing of the Birds." There was a bird nest at the peak of the cabin that had to be moved to stain. There were tiny baby birds in the nest and the mother was vigilantly protecting her nest (she even attacked the Friday Crew when they got a little too close). We tried to move the nest, with as little contact as possible, and hope that the mother would find her babies. We sadly watched as the babies lifted up their heads looking for their mom and the mom chirping angrily in the tree by the cabin for most of the day. It was honestly tragic.
We took some of the down moments to have some fun and take a break, Jenny was always always around to help us find something to do.
We braved through the brief rain storm (which slowed us down for a bit) and got back to work with a vengeance. We were tired and painfully dirty and ready to get the job done.
The day was winding down and we were dirty and tired and dirty and ready to be done (did I mention we were dirty?).
After the chore was done (a huge thanks to Trent manning the airless paint sprayer for the whole day) we got the clean up done, some dinner made, and we were finally ready to hit the road to get home.

I'm glad we were able to help get this project done, but even more glad it is done for the next several years. It will probably take me that long to get clean again (I wish I could describe how dirty we got, ewe).

Maybe the next time it is time to stain the cabin Jake could get it done!!!! Ha Ha Ha....I would say crew #2 had the worst of it. Does Cameron still like being in our family knowing that that dirty jobs comes far to often?

Wouldn't it have been more fun and less time consuming to stain the cabin with . . . I don't know, say, spaghetti sauce? Just thinking out loud.

I know I haven't posted on your blog for a while, but I just wanted to say that I am still checking in on it and also a hearty "congrats" to you and Cameron for all of the good happenings in your new life together. =)

So glad I was on the Friday crew. Seriously. Staining the cabin is terrible, but you guys did a great job and it looks so good! I like the dark color.

So sad about the birds. Even though they almost pecked out my husband's eyes. Creepy.
