We woke up eager to reach our next destination: Venice. We started our drive, through the mountains, and drove through some very rainy weather. Our tour guide kept telling us that we were in the mountains and the weather can change quite drastically once you get out. I kept hoping the rain would stop.
We got to the dock where our water taxi took us to Venice. Needless to say the the rain hadn't stopped.

Nor did it stop for the next several hours. When we first got to the island we headed to the Venetian Glass Blowing factory for a little demonstration. We mostly just went to get out of the rain.

After the factory we had to decide what to do, we could sit inside and watch it rain or venture out into the down pour and explore the city.

Despite the rain, we headed out. To say it was raining seems a bit of an understatement, and I wish I could truly describe the weather. Most people we spoke to, that were locals, said they hadn't seen rain like that in 40+ years. If it does rain like that it is only for a few minutes at a time, this rain went on for hours.

At one point we wanted to get across St. Mark's Square. The only option was to run out in the rain. As we ran across the water was literally 6 inches deep and would splash and fill our shoes with every step. I laughed so hard the entire time.

The rain finally trickled out 30 minutes before we were to leave. The clouds started to break a bit and the charm of the city was in full swing. It was so cute and quaint, even covered in water.

By the time we left the island, our pants were wet up to our thighs, our sleeves and neck were wet (despite our ponchos), and we were chilled to the bone. We couldn't have been happier to get to our hotel, soak in a hot bath, and crawl into bed.

Venice is one more place to add to my list of places to go back to. I will probably never to get experience it like I did this time again but would love to see it in all it's glory on a beautiful day. One of the most romantic places I have been so far. I will make it back!

Mom told me about all the rain, but seeing those pics makes me realize that is really was RAINING! Bummer, but it still looks amazing. Ooo, I can just imagine getting out of your cold, wet clothes and into a warm tub and bed. Nothing better.
And I hope you used the bidet (had to look up how to spell that one). We had them in Brazil, but I never had the guts to try it out.
Jill I have loved reading all about your trip to Europe. If I ever go do you think you or your mom would be willing to go with me? Seriously though, It looks amazing and how cool that you got to share it all with your mom! Love it!
Glad to see and hear about Venice--even in the rain!!!
