A few weeks ago I got the itch to do something to our house.
With multiple ideas floating around my head thanks to pinterest, I settled in on a board and batten idea.
I followed directions (for the most part) from here, I used MDF board as it was easier to find and already primed and was only a little bit more expensive.
So I started at The Home Depot (my favorite store these days). I grabbed my mdf boards, nails, liquid nails, caulk, caulk gun, paint, etc - ok, let's be honest, I wasn't organized to get this all at once. When does a home project not require 10 trips to the store?
I started by figuring out the spacing, measuring, marking, taping, and then nailing.
Once the vertical boards were up we framed the top with a larger vertical board and topped that with a picture ledge (at this point Cameron's dad was nice to help us cut the boards - we are such moochers when it comes to home projects).
Once everything was liquid nailed and then nailed to the wall we started prepping for painting which included caulking all the edges - it was my first time caulking and it went surprisingly well.
Then came the fun part - painting! I always love the way paint adds the finishing touches to projects.
The final product:
It is still a work in progress of exactly what to put on the picture ledge but I have a few ideas I'm working on.
I'm kind of in love with it...
(sorry for the poor pictures - apparently I only take pictures with my phone)

I love how it turned out. Can't wait to see what you end up putting on top.
